Evelyn has been trying her hardest to walk for months! She started walking with help back in October. It's hard to believe that it's taken her so long, but it's amazing to see her progress! The last month or so, she's been barely holding on when she walks with us, and in the last couple of weeks, she's been able to take a few steps on her own between Carl and I, but it was like I pushed her off, and she fell into Carl, so not real steady. Last night, she was standing up, holding on to something, then took about 10 steps on her own with no support at all. I think we can call those her first steps! :) Then this morning, she walked about 6 feet on her own, from me to a door frame, so she didn't even fall. I'm such a proud mama! Of course we've been trying to get this on camera, but Evelyn is such a ham, and she just starts laughing and goes after the camera when it's on. Silly girl! This was a week ago. It's funny to see how much better she's walking now!
Evelyn is also talking up a storm. She babbles constantly. She says a few words, but not much we can understand. It's mostly "mama", "dada", "banana", "up", and "apple". Apple is my favorite. It's more like "aahhhh-pooo!" And I've learned that she doesn't mean an actual apple (although she will definitely devour an apple!), she means her apple-flavored puffs. Silly girl! I've been signing a little bit with Evelyn since she was 3 months old, and she's starting to do a few signs. I have a few DVDs that we've used, and she has always loved them. As soon as the intro starts playing, she stops what she's doing, sits down, and claps! It's even gotten to if she's watching when I put the DVD in, she claps when the FBI Warning comes on! Haha! She's been waving bye-bye on and off for a couple of months now, she'll sign more and all done (especially helpful at the pool - Evelyn goes from loving it to being done in about 10 seconds flat!), and she's starting to sign eat. The intro song to the DVD signs "baby signing time", and she's started to try "signing time". It is so funny!
We've had a few bumps in the road this month, but Evelyn has been trying her best to truck right on. She has 3 teeth right now, and the 4th is taking it's sweet time. She's had her two bottom teeth for a while, her top right tooth broke through about a month ago, and now the top left it being a pain! Literally! I saw it barely under the gums about the same time the other top tooth broke through, but it hadn't broken. About a week later, I noticed a corner sticking out. Over the last month, it has slowly slowly slowly come down, but still hasn't broken the gums much (like the gums are coming down with it.) :( Maybe half of the tooth has cut through now, but jeez, I wish it would hurry up! It's been really painful for Evelyn too. We've had a few days of constant tylenol & motrin. And I've even noticed this one bleeding a little bit. My poor baby!
On top of the teeth, Evelyn's had a couple tiny little colds. I could almost chalk it up to teething-related sniffles, but she gets some good coughs and sneezes with them. A few weeks ago, she had constant boogers and could barely breathe. She got to be good friends with the bulb suction, and didn't seem to mind it all that much when she actually needs it! Then that cleared up and she was alright for a while. Then this past week her nose is like a faucet. Constantly running, but it's all sinus congestion, I can't get anything with the bulb suction! I sent Carl on an emergency Vicks Vapor Rub run last night because Evelyn couldn't breathe and suck on her bottle at the same time. Luckily that seems to have done the trick, and she slept pretty well last night.
Evelyn's still been sleeping through the night pretty well. She always wakes up once or twice, but if she cries, it's only for a minute, and she turns on her music box and goes right back to sleep. Maybe once a week one of us will have to go in there, lay her down, and turn it on for her, but then she goes on to sleep no problem. I don't think we've had to rock her in the middle of the night for weeks now! :)
So part of turning a year old is all these big changes in the eating department. Evelyn is an awesome eater. She eats just about everything we put in front of her - however the carrots and green beans still end up on the floor 75% of the time! We have lots of fruits and vegetables for her, and then she gets a little bit of whatever we're eating for the night. Funny how she throws her green beans on the floor, but if they've come from my plate, she eats them right up! Haha! We've successfully switched from formula to whole milk, which is nice for me. No more mixing formula!! Woo hoo! However, the next big switch is to the sippy cup. 100%. That makes me a little nervous. Evelyn is already using a sippy cup for meals and snacks, anytime she drinks water. But for naps and bedtime, I foresee a problem. It's going to be hard. I tried the other day to put her down for a nap with her sippy cup. She took 2 sips and threw the thing away. :( I don't know what would be easier, trying to get her down with a sippy, or get rid of milk before naps all together. For what it's worth, she only drinks water the rest of the day. She doesn't drink milk with meals or anything, only at naps and bedtime.
Anyways, we really are having alot of fun with Evelyn. Even days where I'm just done, she does something so funny and I can't stop laughing. She's such a sweet girl! And who can resist sweet, slobbery, snotty snuggles? Hahaha! Now I'm looking forward to planning her birthday party. Of course I had grand ideas of planning it WAY in advance, and now here we are a month before and I only have vague ideas! Oh well. I did make up some invitations, I just have to get those printed. Everything else, it doesn't matter until the day before anyways, right?! Haha!
