Catch Up!

I've been meaning to post an update for forever!  But then I wanted to go through my pictures first, then I didn't have any free time, and all that life getting in the way stuff.  ;)  But I need some sort of update, so I loaded up on pictures a couple days ago (there's a post of nothing but pictures right before this one!), and now nothing but words here.  :)  Life is quite busy with 2 kids!  I'll try to go chronologically, but we'll see...

Avery had his 1 month check up just before Christmas.  He was 9 pounds 4 ounces, up from 7 pounds 6 when he was born.  Everything looked great, he's doing well, and growth is in the 45th-50th percentile.  What a difference from Evelyn who has always been 85th-95th!  He got one vaccine and looked at me like I had just killed someone.  :(  Sorry sweet boy, it's for the best!

Christmas was lots of fun around here.  Evelyn at such a fun age.  She gets so excited about things, and Christmas was no exception.  We never did get her to like going to see Santa, but she sure enjoyed talking about him!  For Christmas Eve, we went to my parents' house.  We always do appetizers and open presents.  Even when we were younger, we'd open a few presents on Christmas Eve.  Now it works out well because Carl and I and the kids can have the whole Christmas celebration with my family, AND my brothers don't have to wake up early in the morning.  Haha!  Christmas Eve is my favorite family celebration and this year was alot of fun.  Stephen has let his hair and beard grow out the past few years.  Evelyn tends to cry when she sees him.  In fact, when we told her that Uncle Steve would be at Grandma Ann's house, she said "Steef.  Cry!"  I told her, "No!  You should laugh!"  She was a little uneasy at first, but then she learned that Uncle Steve's a great playmate and she followed him around all night!  Avery slept the evening away in our arms.  Silly guy.  He really didn't wake up until it was time to get back in the carseat!  Evelyn enjoyed opening presents.  She got lots of clothes, and she wanted to pile them all on at the same time.  She was wearing a dress, and put a pair of pajamas on over top.  It was very cute.  She got lots of great toys and had fun playing with them (then AND now!).  We got home just in time to get the kids ready for bed and asleep before Santa got here!  :)

Christmas morning, we got up and got Evelyn all excited.  She was so cute walking into the living room to see all the presents.  She kept putting her hands on her mouth saying "Oh my! Oh my!"  She is so stinking cute!  She took her time opening presents - playing with some for a few minutes, eating breakfast, and running around in between opening.  It took her about 3 hours to open everything.  Santa brought her trucks, diggers, a baby stroller and cradle, books, a helmet (to go with the bike seat that dad got!), blocks, and quite a bit more.  We kind of went overboard!  :)  She had lots of fun though!  And again, Avery slept through the whole thing.  He ate a couple times but mostly just slept!

After opening presents and getting dressed, we made our way up to Carl's parents' for lunch.  We weren't there for very long before Grandma & Grandpa Lindahl wanted Evelyn to check out her Christmas present.  We all went out to the garage and Evelyn pressed the opener - and there was a brand new truck for her!  Evelyn got a F-150 power wheels!  She couldn't quite figure out how to hold the pedal down, but she had fun.  After that, we enjoyed eating dinner and opening presents.  Avery was actually awake, but that means he was fussy and hungry!  It ended up being a very long day, but everyone was in a good mood and when we got home at 7:30, we quickly got ready for bed and went to sleep!  For an hour or two until Avery wanted to eat again.

After Christmas, we all got sick.  Yuck!  Actually, Evelyn had had a cold for a few days before Christmas, and we actually took her to the doctor on Christmas Eve.  Thankfully she didn't have an ear infection, but we all ended up getting the same virus.  I'm not convinced that it wasn't the flu, but we did alright.  Evelyn and I had a few days after Christmas not feeling well.  I really hadn't been that sick in a very long time.  I just wanted to sleep, and Avery just wanted to eat every hour or two.  I was so glad when I started to feel better, but I have to say even 2 or 3 weeks later, both Evelyn and I are coughing up a storm and snotty.  Yuck!  Thankfully Carl never got too sick (but he had it worse a month ago or so) and Avery just got a little boogery for a couple days.  I was so paranoid he was going to get sick!

I am amazed at how much the kids have changed in the last few weeks!  Evelyn has just started talking up a storm.  She's always talking, but she has really started talking in sentences and pronouncing words well.  She is so cute.  I've started keeping a list of the cute things she says.  My favorite right now is that if someone (or even something) gets hurt, she gives them a kiss and says "All better!"

Avery seemed to "wake up" a week or so ago.  He had been nothing but eat, sleep and cry since he was born I felt like.  Just in the last few days, he really has been awake for longer and is so cute.  He smiles and makes silly faces.  He's sleeping better at night - he'll sleep 5 or so hours from 8-1 or 2, but then he's up for an hour or two eating and then only sleeps for about 2 hours.  I am SO ready for him to sleep more!  During the day, he only sleeps if he's held and fusses alot.  But those smiles and silly faces are worth it!
