More Catch Up...

See, the problem with waiting so long between posts is that I forget half of what I want to say.  After I posted last night, I was like "Oh yea! I forgot this, and that and this...", so here's another update post.  :)

The biggest new development with Evelyn is potty training.  Yes, commit me now.  I am certifiably crazy for attempting to potty train with a 7 week old.  Around Christmas, Evelyn went from never ever telling us if her diaper was wet and fighting when we went to change it, to wanting to be changed IMMEDIATELY after she peed.  If we had our hands full, she flipped out.  "Change!  Change!"  She'd go get the diaper and lay on the floor right in front of where we were.  Then she got a doll house for Christmas.  There are little white chairs that she thinks are toilets.  So her dolls were constantly going potty.  I had done a bit of reading before, so I know if she's giving me all these signs, and I blow her off, it could make things harder when we do want to potty train.  So I figured she was so eager, let's go.  She's doing pretty well.  We've been going for about a week now, and most days she pees in the potty except for once or twice in the pull-up.  She even wakes up from her nap dry!  She's so proud of herself when she pees in the potty too.  She stands up and starts saying 'Good girl!"  I was having a hard time getting her to sit on the potty for very long, so the potty now lives in the living room, and she gets to watch a show while she sits there.  Hmmm...  The show we watch most is called Stella & Sam, so when she has to pee, she asks for Sam.  Haha!  We're still working on telling us when she has to pee, but I'm sure that will improve.  She loves wearing pull-ups (it helps that they have Minnie Mouse on them), but sometimes she wants to be naked.  Thats when the problems start.  :)  The other day, she was naked and started saying "Change!  Change!"  I'm like "You don't have anything to change.... oooohhhhhh....."  Clean up in aisle 2!  :)  She is still very apprehensive about #2 in the potty.  She will come and ask for a diaper (NOT a pull up), and then ask to be changed right after she goes.  This morning, she was naked (oops...), and I was on the couch nursing Avery.  She was in her room playing quietly, and all of a sudden she comes running out sobbing and saying "Mess!  Potty?  Mess!"  I figured she had peed, so I asked her to sit on the potty.  And out she comes with poop down her leg.  Oh jeez...  Avery got thrown in the rock & play and I threw Evelyn in the bathtub.  She was so upset!  I kept telling her it was okay, but she was crying, saying "Not okay!  Mess!"  Poor thing!  I felt so bad for her!  Of course she was right in the middle of a bunch of books and toys when she pooped, but luckily most were hard cover and easy to clean off with some clorox wipes and she was on the hardwoods, not 2 feet away on the rug.  Oh yea, AND she stepped in it and tracked it into the living room.  It really wasn't too bad for all that mess, and Evelyn enjoyed a nice mid-morning bath.  I'll be sure she has a pull-up on after breakfast from now on...  I'm just hoping that Evelyn was traumatized by it enough it won't happen again.  Either that or she'll see she gets to play in the bathtub and keep doing it.  Yea, that would suck.  :P  But overall, she is doing really well at home.  I am totally not sure how we will do this when we're out of the house.  I've got my hands full enough with 2 kids, let alone trying to get one to the bathroom, but I'm sure we'll figure it out!

Evelyn is so much fun right now.  I tell Carl every day how much fun she is.  Even when she's doing stuff she's not supposed to, if I wasn't her mom, I'd think it was hilarious.  She's a bit sassy (but not mean sassy... yet...) and it makes me laugh.  She's bossy (I wonder where that comes from...) and knows exactly how things should be done.  If she wants to do something, and I try to help, I hear "No! Do it! Do it!"  She still calls herself "En", so we hear alot of "En en en en en en!"  She really is speaking phrases more.  Not quite sentances, it's more like a lot of thoughts together.  She gets the important parts.  Sometimes her inflections are the funniest parts.  I really need to record her more often.  I wish I could just follow her with the camera all the time!  At least once a day I text Carl with something funny she's said.  The other day, she was playing with my purse.  I asked for it back, and she goes "Danks.  Present."  Like "Here you go, thanks, it's a present!"  I laughed so hard once she walked away.

Evelyn is still very loving.  I told the receptionist at the pediatrician today that she loves kissing everyone and every thing and that's probably why she's been sick-ish since October!  Seriously, she was trying to kiss every fish goodbye before we left.  I think I at least succeeded in getting her to BLOW kisses instead.  The "kiss it all better" thing is working very well right now.  When she hurts herself, even if it should really hurt, I'll kiss it and she runs off like nothing ever happened.  And she thinks that it works both ways.  If she does something I don't like, I tell her she's making mommy sad.  She comes up, gives me a kiss and says "All better!" and waves her hand like it's magic.  We've had a problem with her holding something (like a ball) and then hitting other things or people with it.  Like she holds a ball like she's throwing it, but holds on and hits my arm or my head, something like that.  I tell her "Ow!  That hurts" and she kisses the BALL and tells the BALL "All better!"  That's one of those things like I'm telling my self don't laugh!!!

Evelyn is doing great in school.  I feel like our days at home are wasted alot.  Especially with potty training now, we watch lots of tv while she's on the potty, and sometimes I turn it on when I'm nursing, just because it's easier.  Hmmm...  But at school, she gets to play with all sorts of fun toys, learn new songs, dance, play outside.  She has a blast.  She talks about school all week.  I can't wait until next year when she goes twice a week.  I really think she'd do great with 3 days a week, but there's no reason to jump there yet.  We'll start at 2 and go from there.  :)  She loves her teachers and her friends.  She talks about her friends at the most random times.  And she knows songs I've never sang with her, so I know it must be from school.  She doesn't really sing yet, but when a song she knows comes on Pandora, she starts dancing to it or doing hand movements.  It's very cute.  I try to get her to sing along with me, but not quite yet.

Avery is doing well.  Like I said yesterday, he kind of just WOKE UP a couple weeks ago, and he's such a cute baby.  Before a couple weeks ago, I didn't really feel like I was interacting with him much.  He'd cry and look at me funny, and keep crying, but I never felt like I was doing much more than feeding him.  He still fusses alot, and still eats and sleep alot, but he'll be awake for 30-45 minutes before getting fussy some days.  He likes to be held, and I have him in the carrier alot, so he just looks around wide eyed while I walk around.  If I hold him away from me so we can look at each other, he smiles and laughs when I talk, then he gurgles back.  That is such a sweet sound.  He's so happy when he starts "talking"!

I've had him in the bassinet next to our bed since he was born.  It works well, and he's been sleeping longer and longer (usually 3-4 hour stretches, but occasionally 5 or 6), but I figured I'd try him in the crib.  I liked him next to the bed because I didn't have to go far at night.  I have never gotten breastfeeding while I'm laying down.  I have to at least be sitting up some, but I can lean back and be comfortable.  On my side just doesn't work so well, so I do have to be somewhat awake.  Oh well.  But he would take an hour to eat, and then a while longer to get comfortable and fall asleep.  Sometimes we'd be up for 2 hours in the middle of the night.  Last night, I put him in the crib for the first time.  He slept from 8:30-4:30 (EIGHT HOURS!) only took 30 minutes to eat and go back to sleep (even though I held him for another 1/2 hour just to be sure...) and then he slept from 5 until 8:30.  I was amazed!  Granted, I woke up when Evelyn did at 7:30 and had to pump immediately I was so uncomfortable in that regard, but I hope we can keep that up!  I really really hope that was not just a one time thing!  We'll find out soon enough.  Plus, with Avery in the other room, I slept like a log!  Not that I didn't before, but if he rolled over or fussed for just a second, I was awake.  He is in the room next door, so like 10 feet away through the wall.  I had the monitor on, but even with the monitor on kind of loud, it was like surround sound, I heard both him through the wall and on the monitor about the same.  Plus the monitor had some interference, so I ended up just turning it off.  So I didn't hear every little squeak or heavy breath, only when he was really awake.  So I slept pretty good too!  I really really really need him to keep that up!  Haha!  Especially because I go back to work next weekend... ugh...

Avery went to the doctor today for a quick check.  He weighed 10 pounds 8 ounces - more than a pound more than his last appointment 3 weeks ago!  He has his 2 month check in 2 weeks, so we'll see how much bigger he gets!  He eats pretty well.  Still not as ravenous as Evelyn was, and I don't feel like he latches on great, but he certainly eats well.

So I think that's all the updates for now.  I'm sure in half an hour or so I'll remember something else I wanted to add, but I think this is long enough for now!
