Like every other newly pregnant woman, I am the proud owner of "What to Expect When You're Expecting". I've read the first chapters a couple times now. I like to read as I'm going, not get too far ahead of myself. But of course, there's that small section that talks about being more susceptible to the effects of the sun. "Yep, I got it" I thought as I read through that part. As a life long ginger with exceptionally pale skin, you don't have to tell me. I have memories of lazy evenings at the beach being interupted with oatmeal baths and painful aloe applications. I KNOW what the sun can do.
So did I take that part of the book seriously? Of course not! I know better than some book! Of course!
Rewind to yesterday - BEAUTIFUL sunny, 85 degree day. Perfect for the convertible! So Carl and I drove all around the greater Triangle area and had a blast. Until the last hour I realized my skin was bright freaking red. If I can see how red it is before getting out of the sun, it's bad. It's bad. I slept last night with my arms sticking straight out above the covers. Not very comfortable for a tummy sleeper like me!! I got up a couple times to put wet washclothes on my arms. I took a Tylenol somewhere in there and had the best sleep for 3 hours!
I was supposed to work today. I was looking forward to working today. Yea, it's the Fourth of July, my FAVORITE holiday, but we cooked out and saw fireworks last night. Plus it's a Sunday, so I'd get Holiday and Weekend pay today. Wooooo hoooooo!!!! My paycheck needs that! However, after a restless, painful night, it was way too easy to say YES!!!! when my coworker called at 5am to offer me the day on call. Of course I'm regretting that now, and no one wants to go home that isn't getting sent home already. :( Oh well.
So here I am. With a long-sleeved shirt on with the sleeves wet. And it feels OH SO GOOD!!! I read somewhere about putting on vinegar, so I might do that. But otherwise, I think I'll stick to the great indoors and enjoy a book today!!
