Flexible? Not my child...

I'm quickly learning that it's near impossible to raise a perfect child.  Hahaha...  not that I was really expecting that, but it would be nice!  :)  And of course, as her mother, I think Evelyn Claire can do just about anything!  But, here are a few things I'm learning she cannot do (at least not without a substantial amount of fussing):

  • Stay up 2-3 hours after her bedtime, just because Carl and I want to have dinner somewhere else (our parents, cookouts, fast food, it doesn't matter!).  We need to get used to eating early or at home!
  • Skip her afternoon nap and be a happy baby for Carl and I to show off.  :)  (And 30 minutes in the car doesn't count!)
  • Take a nap anywhere but her crib or her swing, and occasionally the bouncy seat.
  • Enjoy riding in the car, if she's not sleeping.
  • Take a pacifier (I'm actually quite happy about this one, but believe me, we've tried!)
  • Enjoy quietly sitting still while being held - my girl likes to MOVE!
  • Enjoy being held if she can't see what's going on!
  • Refuse to be nurse - even if she JUST ate!  (That would explain the 50% weight gain in 2 months, no?)
I would really like to raise Evelyn to be flexible.  I love having our routine most days, but sometimes it's nice to change things up a little.  Evelyn doesn't think so.  ;)  She definitely likes her routine!  And honestly, I'm not too willing to shake the boat too much.  I have an amazingly happy baby - most of the time - and that's because she gets fed and sleeps on a regular basis, and she gets 10 hours of sleep a night - including 5-8 hours in a stretch.  I love that!  I hate that Evelyn gets so upset when anyone other than Carl or I hold her - especially when that someone is one of her grandmas.  I know she's only 2 months old, and hopefully it will get better, but I kind of have a feeling that it will get worse before it gets any better.  But, I know that all of this will get easier as time goes on.  I can only do my best, and try to make her more flexible little by little.

However, even after an afternoon of fussing, no substantial nap, and crying almost an entire hour in the car, my baby still smiles, laughs & coos at me.  It's the best feeling in the world!
