Evelyn's First Trip to Canada

We just got back from a week-long trip to Ontario for my cousin's wedding!  Unfortunately, when you're driving, 8 days is 4 days of driving and 4 days of visiting - not nearly long enough for family I haven't seen in anywhere from 9 months to 7 years!!  We stayed with my Aunt Laurie & Uncle Chris.  My cousins - Ethan & Emily are 4 and 2, and they LOVED Evelyn!  I don't think 5 minutes went by any day without hearing "Baby Evelyn!" It was pretty cute!  I wonder if Laurie & Chris are still hearing "Where's Baby Evelyn?!"

We had a great time at Alicia's wedding!  It was so beautiful!  Evelyn decided to mouth off a bit during the ceremony, so we stood at the back of the church for most of it.  But lucky for us, we were the first ones to see Alicia & Matt after they walked up the aisle!  Evelyn (and Carl!) got to meet my grandparents, all my aunts & uncles except for one, and a few cousins.  This is the first great grandchild on their side, so it was very exciting.  Evelyn did pretty well, considering that the wedding was at 3:30, dinner after 7, and we left around 10:30.  She fussed here and there, but was generally pretty quiet and didn't mind being passed around to an extent.  She's still quite the mom's girl though!

My grandparents also stayed at my aunt's house Saturday night, so we were able to visit a bit more with them Sunday morning.  Sunday we spent the afternoon at my Aunt Rita & Uncle Bill's house.  They're my Godparents so it was nice to be able to spend a good deal of time catching up with them!  Evelyn was a bit more vocal Sunday, but she was also on day 4 of waking up every 3 hours at night, and no naps.  Ha.  That was fun!  (Or not!)

Monday morning Evelyn was a mess, and so was I.  I was soooooooo tired, and E wasn't sleeping well.  While I was in the shower, mom and Carl took Evelyn for a walk.  She passed out in the stroller!  Rita came over, and we were all going to go down town in the village Laurie lives in to do some shopping.  I didn't want to wake Evelyn up, so my mom & her sisters went on downtown, while Carl and I waited for E to wake up.  After 2 hours, I finally said forget it, and we walked down to meet them and looked around at some of the cute shops!  After 3 1/2 hours, Evelyn finally woke up!  And what a happy girl she was!  We had lunch with my aunts, and one of my mom's childhood friends.  It's so nice to catch up!!  That afternoon, my aunt Michelle drove down with 3 of my cousins - Katie, Alyssa, & Matt, so we got to see them for a while!

Ethan & Emily love Evelyn!
Tuesday morning, we got up early, played with Ethan & Emily for a while, then said our goodbyes.  I always hate leaving!  Evelyn did pretty good in the car this time around!  Thank goodness!!!  We stopped in Pittsburgh for the night, at Carl's Aunt Wendy & Uncle Tom's.  Carl's cousin Tom & his wife Mary Rose, and their 14 month old Benjamin came over for dinner.  We had a great meal, and were able to sit and chit chat for a while!  We had a great time!

Wednesday, we got up and took our time getting things together before heading out for the day.  We stopped a couple of times, and got home around 9.  It was so nice to be home!!  Overall, we had such a great trip!  The driving part was so easy!  We never hit any significant traffic, no road construction, and no rain!  I don't think that's ever happened!  We loved seeing family, and introducing them all to Evelyn!  It makes me want to visit more often.  Maybe now that I'm not working as much, it will be easier to coordinate schedules!

But it's amazing to see how much Evelyn changes in a week!  Like I said earlier, she decided not to sleep well.  I'm hoping that once we get back into our routine, she'll sleep better!   Her eyes are SO blue!  She looks so much bigger than pictures & video of even a week ago.  She's alot steadier when I hold her, and doesn't wobble nearly as much.  Evelyn has started to roll from her back to her tummy, but only when she's on a soft surface like a bed or couch.  This morning, she got up on her side when she was lying on the floor, but couldn't seem to flip all the way over!  And tummy time isn't the end of the world anymore!  She actually enjoys looking at the world that way sometimes.  Evelyn is chatting up a storm when she's in a good mood.  It's not just a coo here and there, it's like 10 minutes straight!  I can barely get a word in!

We've got a while to just take it easy now!  I go back to work Saturday, but it's nice to be back to normal!
