Hungry Baby!

Last week was quite a challenge. I had quite the fussy baby who did NOT want to sleep, and was getting mad everytime she nursed. It just so happened that I also decided to do some sleep training. Haha... after one long week of fussy baby, tired mom, we finally decided that Evelyn was going through a growth spurt and was just really really hungry. After some additions to her diet, my happy, well-sleeping baby is back! She still has to nurse to sleep for the most part, and she still wakes up 1-3 times a night, but I can deal with it! SO much better than the every hour or 3-hour-awake-periods-at-2am that found me at my wits end!

Now that Evelyn's not so hungry, the sleep training is going much better! She gets a bottle at bedtime, but has been nursing for a few minutes too to help her get to sleep. Those few minutes have been getting shorter and shorter as the week has gone on. Tonight, she didn't need to nurse! Woo hoo! I'm not expecting that to become the norm, or even for it to work well tonight (she could very well wake up soon wanting to nurse!), but its a step in the right direction! I was so excited to lay her down awake, and watch her drift off to sleep!

Evelyn's big excitement this week has been the addition of some yummy food! Haha. We started her on some rice cereal, and she either loves it, or wants nothing to do with it. Luckily, she hasn't pitched a fit about eating yet, she just sometimes lets us know gently that she's not interested! It seems that every other night she wants to eat well. We've also been giving her a bit of mashed up solids, pretty much whatever we're eating. So far she's had bananas, peaches, carrots & a french fry (I'm sure my pediatrician will love that one!). She's only gotten a few spoonfuls of each (or in the case of the french fry, whatever wasn't mushed up in her hands!), but she's seemed to like the flavors a bit more than the rice cereal!

"Okay mom, I'm all done!"

The past couple of weeks have seemed like I don't have much free time to get things done around the house. When Miss E wasn't sleeping well, I (re-)learned the importance of taking a nap when she did. Thank goodness she still napped well during the day!! Besides that, I've been sewing Evelyn's baptism gown. I haven't sewn clothes since high school, so to start out with a fancy dress has been alot of work! But I'm loving how it's coming together, and I can't wait for her to wear it! I'll post pictures once its done!

My sweet girl!

Evelyn has been growing like a weed! It doesn't seem like that long ago I got out some of the 6 months clothes, and now those fit her the best! Some 3 month outfits still fit, but they are tight and show off her little Buddha belly! She's sitting up well with help, and can hold her head up excellently! We've started using the high chair more instead of the bouncy seat or bumbo, and she loves it! I love being able to wheel her around too so she can see what I'm doing!

Before...
She still hasn't quite gotten down rolling. While we were in Canada, she would roll from her back to her belly while she was lying on a fluffy bed, so I thought she was close. Since then, she's been trying her darndest, but can't seem to get it! I think she's rolled that way once, and she really surprised herself so much she got mad! However, she's been rolling belly to back pretty regularly. She still can't do it every time she wants, but she's getting much better at it! I just have to watch out for her thumping her head on the way down!

After!!
Evelyn's getting stronger too. The other day, she was sitting in my lap, playing with one of her rattles and totally bonked herself on the forehead. She stopped, looked at me like "what was that?!" and promptly started crying. Poor thing!

Happy Canada Day, y'all!
She is so much fun right now. Of course she knows me & Carl, but it's so fun to see her recognize other people, especially my mom & my brother. She just lights up when she sees them! I love getting her to laugh. She just goes on and on! It's so cute! Maybe if I had 3 arms I could get a good video of her! ;)  We've been watching sign language DVDs together, and she at least recognizes when I'm signing, even if she's just laughing because I look funny!  She's starting to notice Dozer. She likes to grab at him, but he doesn't mind too much... yet! Speaking of grabbing - EVERYTHING! My hair, my ears, glasses, toys, whatever. I'm surprised I don't have bruises from where she's pinched me so far! But it's alright!
