The Lindahls: 8 Months Old!

Evelyn Clare is EIGHT months old! I can’t believe it! However, I have said that she’s “ten months old” a couple times today. Oops! I blame it on the fact that today is the TENTH of the month. ;) It’s all good! We’ve had a busy month, so I’ve got LOTS of pictures!

Evelyn is quite the busy girl lately. She is so much fun! I can truly say that I love (L-O-V-E!) this stage. She is so happy nearly all the time, and when she’s not, I can figure out pretty easily what is wrong. Evelyn just laughs and laughs all the time. She’s gotten this cackling laugh thing down, and now she has a really funny smile to go with it. ALL gums!

Speaking of gums, Miss E finally has a tooth!! YAY!! Last Saturday, her bottom right tooth popped out. I was praying that is was coming soon, because the whole week before she was having trouble sleeping – waking up every hour or two to nurse. During the day, she seemed fine, but even on Friday I had to go through a bit of Motrin to keep her happy. I am thinking(hoping) that the next one is coming soon. I really thought that the left bottom tooth would come first. That’s the side that has been swollen, the side I could feel the tooth first. But we shall see. I’ve heard different things about the rest of these teeth. Some people say that the first tooth is the worst, and the rest still hurt, but aren’t that bad, but others say that they’re all as bad as the first. Honestly, yea, we got a bit less sleep than normal, and we had some fussy moments during the day, but Evelyn is such a happy baby. By no means was she ever miserable all day. She’d have her moments, and then go back to playing, laughing & smiling. I’m so lucky to have such a wonderful baby!! :)

We have been very busy the past month. Right now, we’re on the way to Myrtle Beach to hang out with my mom for a few days. (We’re in the car – it’s honestly the only way I’m able to sit down and type out a new blog post!!) It will be nice to get away for a few days, and even though it will be too chilly to hang out at the beach, at least we can play in the indoor pools and at least put Miss E’s feet in the ocean. :)

In October, we took Evelyn to the NC State Fair. I LOVE the fair, and I was so happy to take Evelyn. She did excellent! She actually slept in the stroller through most of it. I was worried that she would fuss through the exhibits (some of my favorite parts), but she mostly slept right through it, and when she was awake, she was just taking it all in. She slept through the cows, sheep, and goats. She was wide awake, though, for the petting zoo. She LOVED it! We didn’t get any food, but the animals were licking her hands anyways. She cracks up when Dozer does that, so when these huge animals – cows, goats, llamas, camels – were doing it, she didn’t know what to think! It was very funny. Don’t worry, I washed her hands well afterwards – plus the E. Coli outbreak wasn’t from the petting zoo this year. Hahaha.


SO Happy!

Halloween was kind of a bust at our house. It was cold and rainy, so I decided to not even take Evelyn around our cul-de-sac. I still dressed her up and took lots of pictures. I think it took 100+ pictures to get a handful of good ones. She was in no mood to get her picture taken! I finally sat her in front of the candy bowl and she had a blast. It was so funny! We ended up only getting 3 groups of trick-or-treaters, so mom & dad had lots of leftover candy! :) We do still have some left, but all the good stuff is gone! Haha!

So Big!

Evelyn has really been busy learning how to walk this month. It’s funny watching how quickly she progresses. It seems like two weeks ago she was just starting to pull up well on things, and when we held her hands, she might or might not have taken a few steps. Since then, she’s learned to pull up on just about anything (really, anything – the couch, my leg, a chair, the dog, whatever!), and is cruising while holding on to stuff pretty well. She’ll start on one end of the couch, walk all the way down, around the corner, move to the side table, go all around that, try to reach for the loveseat, sometimes get it, sometimes end up on her bum. Her balance is definitely improving a bit. When she lets go, she is able to stand there for a few seconds before falling, whereas before as soon as she let go - *PLOP!* I know it won’t be long before she is able to let go and take a few steps. I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet – She’s only EIGHT months old! Evelyn is getting better with crawling too. She makes a conscious effort to keep her belly up when she’s crawling. It’s funny, every so often she’ll let her belly drag on the ground, and then she’ll stop, and real quick pull it up. It makes me laugh to watch her.

I had to get all new toys for Evelyn this month, because almost overnight, she decided these baby toys aren’t working anymore! So the playmat, exersaucer, and johnny jump-up are all in the attic now. Evelyn still likes rattles and stuff that make noise, but she was not content just staying in one place to play. She’s got to be on the move! I got some play tables – one that plays music, and one that blows air into toys; a “house” that has a front door, mailbox, windows, doorbell, all sorts of stuff that makes noise and sings; a kitchen that sings songs, and tells what things are in English and Spanish. They’re a lot of fun. Even when I’ve heard the songs enough to keep hearing them in my dreams!

Evelyn loves going to the park. It has been a very mild fall this year, so we’ll go hang out outside a lot – have picnics at the park (she’s so messy, it’s much easier to clean up after her this way! Haha!), swing, climb on the playground, slide! We went to the park one day with some of my friends who have older kids, and Evelyn just wanted to follow them around. She was annoyed that she couldn’t run around like them. But she certainly ate their food! Haha!

Evelyn is still eating very well. I haven’t changed anything up too much, but I’m definitely not holding anything back. If it’s safe for her to eat, why not?! No one in my or Carl’s families have food allergies, so I’m not worried about that aspect of stuff. Plus, if something doesn’t agree with her, I’ll just hold it back for a while. Evelyn will eat just about anything I put in front of her. Except green beans. She still doesn’t like green beans. Oh well! I’m still making most of her food, but I’ve learned that some things are just better to buy than try to make! I make all her fruits and vegetables, but things like crackers and ravioli I’ll buy whatever. Graham crackers and bananas are her favorites. I try to hold the bananas until the end of the meal, and she goes crazy when I pull it out. I’m trying to teach her please, but she just laughs & screams happily. :) Oh well. One day!

Just in the past couple of days, I’ve felt like Evelyn has been trying to be more verbal. She is definitely progressing quicker on the motor skills side than verbal, but she’s catching up. J Right now, when she tries to “talk”, she just squawks. Yesterday, we were out running errands, and she had a whole squawking conversation with the ladies in the shop. Haha! I have no idea what her first word will be. I’ve always thought it would be “Dozer”, but based on the sounds she’s making now, I have no idea. I’ve been doing sign language with Evelyn since she was 3 months old, and while I get the feeling that she knows what I’m signing, she hasn’t really tried to sign back yet. I got excited a few weeks ago because I thought she was signing “more” when she was eating, but it turns out she just started clapping when she’s really excited. Haha. It’s all good though! I’m trying to get “more” and “all done” though, because they’re totally opposite signs, and it would really help me when she’s playing, eating, whatever. Occasionally, Evelyn will try to wave. It’s like she’s figuring out how her fingers bend. It’s very funny.

Evelyn still loves to be around people. Gary’s dad passed away last weekend, so we have spent a lot of time with family this week. Evelyn did great the whole time. She tolerated being passed around (to an extent – she is still very much a mama’s girl!), and was being cute for everyone to see. J She was pretty quiet through the whole visitation, but then she was ready to play the next day during the funeral. Haha. She was quite vocal, happily, during the service. I ended up taking her out, and she just played and played. Then, once we got back to my parent’s house for lunch, she played and played on her own, while the adults ate and talked.

So now, we’re on the way to the beach. Evelyn’s been sleeping so far, and I hope she’ll continue for a while! :) She usually likes to sleep in the car, so I’m hoping that we’ll have a quiet ride! Maybe next month I’ll get more than one post written! :)
