We had a great Fourth of July! It was hot, but that is to be expected for North Carolina in July. I'm a little tired of these 100 degree days, but I guess I really can't complain too much - we have lots of things inside in air conditioning to keep us busy! Plus, Evelyn has been napping for 2-3 hours in the middle of the afternoon, so that takes up most of the hottest part of the day! It's a little cooler by the time Carl gets home from work, so I send Evelyn outside to play with him while I make dinner. It works out well!
On the Fourth, we went downtown to check out the street fair Raleigh was putting on. It was really neat, and I think once Evelyn is older, she'll really enjoy something like that. What she did enjoy was checking out the firetruck, and the splash area at the end of the street. The splash area was mostly big inflatables that were too much for Evelyn, but she did try her best and enjoyed getting soaking wet! They also had a great bubble machine that made her go crazy for a bit! :)

After walking up and down Fayetteville Street, we walked around the Capital. There were people there giving carriage rides, and while we passed on that, Evelyn loved getting to see a pony and a horse up close. She didn't really know what to think, but she did a really good job letting them smell her hand first, then petting their noses gently. She loves reading about farm animals, so it's neat when she gets to see them in real life. She didn't even get scared of the big horse!
After spending enough time in the heat, we went to my mom's to cool off and for Evelyn to nap while Carl and I took the MG out for a spin. Evelyn ended up taking forever to fall asleep (too much going on at Grandma's!), but it worked out in our favor. She napped from 5-7, so she was awake and happy for fireworks! We were planning on going to fireworks, but I didn't know how well Evelyn would do sitting in one spot for a long period of time, and I knew how crowded places could get, so we ended up just hanging out at mom's for a while and having dinner there. About an hour before the fireworks were supposed to start, we headed that way, but then I decided instead of dealing with major crowds and traffic, we'd be better off just hanging out at a nearby shopping center. Good call!
We were about 1/2 mile from where the fireworks were being launched, and there was enough going on to keep Evelyn entertained without being crammed in with a bunch of people. In fact, a few feet away, people were setting off fireworks before the big show. :) Evelyn did really well, just peeking at first, but never bothered by them. Even the "screaming" fireworks, she just put her fingers in her ears. :)
The "Big" show ended up being lower than we thought (However, we were in Cary, not dealing with the Raleigh debacle), but standing up, we got a good view of the show. It worked out perfectly. Evelyn got to see the fireworks and seemed to enjoy them. We weren't really close, so they weren't loud, and to her they were just pretty! She did get bored towards the end, but that's to be expected! We got to see
some great fireworks and got out of there quickly! We were home a little after 10! All in all, it was a great day!
All is well on the baby front! He's moving around all over the place, although I'm ready for the BIG movements. I know I'll regret saying that in a few months when I'm being woken up by rib kicks at 3am! But I love feeling him move and can't wait to feel more! :) My checkups are great, they're quick and easy because he's being perfect. Haha - I shouldn't get used to that! Evelyn is being really funny, and she really gets excited when I tell her we're going to the doctor. Once we get there, it's a bit of a different story. She is very cute and excited when we listen to his heartbeat, but other than that, she's like "All done! Go home!" Hanging out in a small room where she can't play with anything isn't much fun! But it's cute to see her excited to go.
I'm 20 weeks this week, which means in theory I'm half way done! It's very hard to believe. I've forgotten I'm pregnant most of this first half (not that I felt that great, just that I've had enough other things to keep my attention!), so I'm hoping that the second half slows down a bit!
