9 Months Old!

So I'm going to try to update more often.  So frequently, I've found that I get overwhelmed by how much I have to update, then put off blogging even more.  So hopefully, by posting little updates weekly or bi-weekly, I won't get so overwhelmed!

Avery is 9 months old today!  He had his 9 month check-up this morning, and is doing fantastic.  After 6 months of being at the very bottom of the growth curve for weight, my skinny boy has chunked up a bit!  He's now 19 pounds and 11 ounces, which puts him at 50th percentile for weight.  Before this check up, he had been 5th or 10th percentile!  I blame the formula...  He remains 50th percentile at height, and 75th percentile for head circumference.  He's still smaller than Evelyn who has always been at least 95th percentile for height, weight and head.

He is doing perfectly though.  Aside from a virus that made us put a hold on eating fresh foods for a couple weeks, Avery is eating like a champ and developing ahead of schedule.  We did a developmental screening for 10 months old, and Avery can do just about on the list - and that includes things that only a *few* 10 month olds should be able to do.  Of course I'm bragging about my kids, they're great!  :)

He was such a happy boy through most of the check-up, and he tolerated Dr. Shaw messing with him very well.  He got 1 vaccine, and cried a little, but was fine after I gave him his Puppy.

The worst/funniest part of the appointment was when Dr. Shaw asked me how Evelyn was doing with Avery moving around and getting into her stuff.  I told her that she generally did pretty well, that they had their moments, but got along most of the time.  I told her that Evelyn doesn't hit Avery or try to hurt him, she just sometimes tries to love too much.  Not 5 minutes after I told her that, Dr. Shaw and I were talking and I had both Evelyn and Avery in my lap, not giving them much mind.  Avery starts SCREAMING.  I look down and Evelyn has his hand in her mouth and has the death grip on him.  Go figure.  She's bitten Carl and I before and she gets punished, but the first time she bites Avery (that we know of) and it's at the pediatricians.  And it was BAD.  She has never bitten me that hard.  She didn't puncture the skin, but there will be a nice bruise there.  :(  Poor baby!  That was worse than the shot!  Luckily Avery got over it quickly and there's not much to do about it now other than laugh!

At 9 months, Avery is able to walk while holding someones' hands.  He pulls up on almost everything, but he's not quite cruising yet.  He's able to stand for a short time, though I've really only seen him stand when he's letting go of something and sitting down, so not unsupported for long.  He loves to feed himself and gets frustrated if he has alot of food that he has to be fed.  Even eating yogurt, he prefers to get the spoon in his mouth on his own.  He can use a sippy cup here and there, but not well and not consistently.  He's starting to talk a bit, but mostly babbles to himself when it's quiet and Evelyn's not around.  He and Evelyn babble back and forth to each other in the car, but not frequently any other time.  He makes sounds when he's babbling, but the only sounds I can differentiate consistently is "Ma".  He will say "Ma ma mama ma!" alot.  (Like right now - I just heard him wake up from his nap, and he's in there going "Mmmmmm MA! ma! Maaammmmm"  It's very cute!

Evelyn is doing pretty well.  She does so well having a routine that now that we have a bit of a break, she's getting to be a brat at times.  Both kids had a bad virus the end of last week and the weekend, so we pretty much stayed at home last Wednesday-today.  No Y, no school, no parks, nothing.  And lots of TV.  Evelyn is getting mad when she doesn't get her way.  I'm hoping tomorrow we can get up, get to the Y and get back to normal and have my happy, easy going girl back!

Evelyn is excited to get back to preschool.  She loves playing with friends and getting out of the house.  I'm excited for her to start back too, and have some extra free time, either with Avery or to my self if he's napping!  I don't think I've gotten any extra sewing done since she finished up with preschool summer camp a few weeks ago!

Anyways, kids are up from nap, so back to the grind!

Watch out Danica...
