Hi Avery!

We have a baby!  Avery Robert Lindahl was born on Wednesday, November 21 at 2:41am!  He was 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and 20 3/4 inches long.  I'll post later with all the labor details, but it was pretty quick and easy!  :)  I started having contractions around 5:30 or 6 on Tuesday evening, we got Evelyn on her way to Grandma & Grandpa Lindahl's, and Carl and I headed to the hospital by 9.  I was admitted around 11, and Avery was born at 2:41.  I had two great labor & delivery nurses and my doctor was great.  Everything went so smoothly and I kept saying "I can't believe this!  This is so quick!  No way!" the whole time I was pushing and about an hour afterwards!  Haha!
Our last picture as a family of three (and a half!) right before Evelyn left to go to Grandma's!
One of Avery's first pictures - he was wild!

Avery has been a great baby!  I do have to complain that he's got his days and nights mixed up, but he is only 2 1/2 days old.  :)  During the day, he pretty much nurses, then sleeps for 2 1/2-3 hours at a time.  At night, he wants to nurse on and off for a few hours and be awake in between.  He never really fusses much, so it's not like he's crying all night, just awake.  Last night, I nursed and nursed and nursed and he still didn't want to sleep, so by 6am, I handed him off to Carl expecting to get woken up in an hour or so - I got to sleep until 8:30!  Woo hoo!  We've been letting him sleep in the rock and play during the day, putting it wherever we're hanging out in the house, and he sleeps well in that.  I haven't decided if it's because there's more going on, he's more comfortable than in the bassinet, or if it's just because it's day time.  :)

We went to the doctor this morning and Avery's right on track.  He's still losing weight a little, but not much last night and the pediatrician wasn't concerned.  We'll go back Sunday to see if he's gained.  So far he's the healthiest of the bunch.  Carl and I are getting colds, and Evelyn's had a cold for a couple weeks, and it's just not getting better.  Turns out she's got both ears AND her sinuses infected.  And aside from a couple moments here and there, she just keeps on like nothing's bothering her!  But of course, Evelyn's never had a bad cold, never had ear infections, never been on antibiotics, and she waits til we have a little baby too!  Hopefully being around this crew will get Avery's immunity a head start!  :)

Evelyn holding Avery
Evelyn has been great with Avery.  We thought she would do well, but you never know until the baby's actually here.  Evelyn walked into the hospital room, took one look at Avery in the bassinet and said "Hold!" And now the first thing she does when she sees him is "Hold! Hold!"  When she does "hold" him, she is so sweet and gentle.  We just have to watch the eyes ;)  She loves to rub his head and points to all his body parts.  She's done well when I am nursing him.  I was worried she might want to be all up in our business, but she seems to know that Avery's hungry and eating.  She just wants to get a hold of my phone!  Haha!  This morning, she woke up when Avery was fussing, and when I got her out of the crib, the first thing she said was "Avery sad?" and wanted down to run check on him.  It was so sweet!  We talked so much about "the baby" and "Avery", it's so nice to see that it just clicks with her.  Granted, we've been home just a little more than 24 hours with them both, so we have lots more to see I'm sure!  I'm hoping that getting Evelyn better will only help things out!
So sweet!

This is the "CHEESE!" face - she was actually very excited!

  1. The rock & play is magic!!! It was a mighty sad day in our house when Lance outgrew it. The pictures of Avery & Evelyn together melt my heart, she looks so proud of him. Good health and a little sleep to you all!
